I (amelia) am making dinner. I am pretty sure I am good for dessert as well, but if people want something to drink other than water, you can bring it!
Peter is leading on a Psalm. not sure which one yet.

Thursday, October 16th

Life group will be meeting at the Basses this week (October 16th at 7 PM). Charlie will be leading us, and Becky will be cooking dinner. Any one up for making a RBD* (or better, something ending in "pie" or "bbler")?

Schedule for October

Each week we start at 7 PM. Getting there at 7 will help us have plenty of time for fellowship around dinner, and for Bible Study, and for prayer, and for ending somewhere near 9:30. We all value all these things, so hope to see y'all at 7ish whenever possible.

And now our schedule:

• October 2: At the Basses; Jim leading on Psalm 6 and 7; Ellen is cooking.
• October 9: At the Emmets; Ellen i s leading; Carra is cooking.
• October 16: At the Basses; Charlie is leading; Becky is cooking.
• October 23: At the Emmets; need a leader and a cook.
• October 30: Fun night at the Basses. Ellen is cooking.

Let me know if you'd like to lead or cook on October 23.

This week at the Emmet's

This week is fun night and it is at my house.
If anybody has any good ideas of what to do for fun night, let me know. I am sure I can think of something if I need to.
So, I am sure you are all wondering where the Emmet's live.
We live on 15 Waterloo st, apt #3, Hyde Park. You can park wherever you want on Waterloo, and our front door is not in use, so you will have to walk around to the back.
I will attach a map that starts at River of life church.

Blog, blog , blog (and Nouwen)

Say Blog about ten times fast. It's a funny word. I'm sure y'all'll have no trouble believing that I've never been on a blog site before. I may need a lesson or two. If you have any pointers, let me know.

So here's a quote from Henri Nouwen. (Ask me sometime and I'll tell you about the time I had lunch at his house.) I planned to share this at dinner last week, but I forgot.

"From all that I have said about our worried, overfilled lives, it is clear that we are usually surrounded by so much outer noise that it is hard to truly hear our God when he is speaking to us. We have often become deaf, unable to know when God calls us and unable to understand in which direction he calls us.

Thus our lives have become absurd. In the word absurd we find the Latin word surdus, which means "deaf." A spiritual life requires discipline because we need to learn to listen to God, who constantly speaks but whom we seldom hear.

When, however, we learn to listen, our lives become obedient lives. The work obedient comes from the Latin work audire, which means "listening." A spiritual discipline is necessary in order to move slowly from an absurd to an obedient life, from a life filled with noisy worries to a life in which there is some free inner space where we can listen to our God and follow his guidance.

Jesus' life was a life of obedience. He was always listening to the Father, always attntive to his voice, always alert for his directions. Jesus was "all ear." That is true prayer: being all ear for God. The core of all prayer is indeed listening, obediently standing in the presence of God.

Glad to have another venue

Hey guys,

I'm glad you guys thought of this as another way to participate together. Since life is so different for Drew and I now, hopefully we'll be able to be there some weeks, but also on here. Thanks to Becky for setting this up!
